21 Days of Prayer – Give Thanks

Then one of them, when he saw he was healed, turned back, praising Yahweh [God] with a loud voice.
Luke 17:15 NET

I love Don Moen’s simple worship song that says:

Give thanks with a grateful heart, Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ (Yeshua) His Son
.

And now, let the weak say I am strong, Let the poor say I am rich
Because of what Yahweh has done for us, Give thanks
.

Thanksgiving has the effect of making our change extend further and into different areas of our lives. It expands our visions of hope and reminds us of the miracles experienced in the past.

Luke 17:11-19 tells of ten lepers who encountered the Messiah and how they called out to him and asked for healing. We do not know which one called out or if all or several of them did. But they were all healed. By following the Messiah’s instructions in faith, “as they went, they were cleansed”. They called out as a group, acted in faith and obeyed as a group, and experienced the change thy prayed for as a group.

But this story tells me that our response to answered prayer is personal. One cannot be coerced into thanksgiving. Gratitude is a matter of the heart. The change we have prayed for and received means a lot to us, for various reasons. We can then just go on and be happy about our change or we can take this one very important step, return to the Giver of miracles, the Life Changer and give thanks.

For those of you who know me, you know I embrace the idea that he “praised Yahweh with a loud voice”. You see, when this man called out for help, he had to use His ‘outside’ voice, because he was most likely some distance from Yeshua since lepers had to be separate from others. So he was not shy to use this same energy in his praise. He was grateful and he shouted his gratitude to Yahweh, even as he bowed down in worship.

Yeshua remarked on the absence of those who also received healing, but then he went further and said, “rise and go, your faith has made you whole”. Now he was not just healed in his body, he was made whole through salvation. His faith and gratitude resulted in him being whole!

Gratitude brings us back into the presence of Yahweh today to tell Him “thank you” for the time of prayer and His response to our faith. Give thanks for what has happened already, for what is happening now and what will happen. Think back on what Yahweh has said and done these past three weeks. Remember the lessons learned through fasting and prayer and as you go into the rest of your weeks, make sure that you return constantly to thanksgiving and praise to Yahweh.

Give thanks.

  1. Awesome! The power of thanksgiving. Wonderful, inspiring, and thought provoking reading Pastor Sharon!

I just got up from my sleep after our morning devotion, and I woke up with the same song you quoted, ringing in my ears before I even read your devotional piece for today. Isn’t Yahweh amazing!!!!!! Isn’t He wonderful!!! I even visualized you singing and rejoicing at FTWC while we were singing this same song. I remembered how one Sabbath this very song brought down Yahweh’s presence in our midst. This same song blessed and strengthened my soul during the course of my “Avalanche Attack” a couple weeks ago. By just giving thanks, mountains can be removed and chains can be broken. I AM IN AWE OF ALMIGHTY YAHWEH. I am truly blessed and amazed by Yahweh’s presence with us.

Keep up the good work, Pastor Sharon. Keep on writing. Your devotionals are a wonderful blessing. Keep dwelling in the Spirit and in Yahweh’s presence.

    Much love to you ❤️
