For this reason, take up all the armor that Yahweh [God] supplies. Then you will be able to take a stand during these evil days. Once you have overcome all obstacles, you will be able to stand your ground.
Ephesians 6:11 (GW)
At the beginning of this 21-day journey we were invited to enter the dressing room of the King. I shared the image of a well-lit, mirrored fitting room and we were invited to undress, fully see ourselves and be willing to accept our Father’s assessment of us, then to put on His selected garments.
The fitting room and the dressing room are often used interchangeably and rightly so. Getting fitted with just the right garment is an important first step before we move into further expansion. I am discovering that this dressing room is not just where we are fitted, or where the chosen outfits are approved in the 360 degrees mirror of His Word, but it is a place of preparation for what is needed now and for where we will go from here.
Actors, singers and other performers, often have private dressing rooms. Some items in the room are their costumes for their role, make-up, a sample of their script, a high chair that brings them up to the level of their well lit mirror and something else – a quiet space to apply their final touches. The lighting in the dressing room is made to mimic the lighting of the stage from where they will be scrutinized and appreciated for what they present.
It is one thing to get fitted, but it is another level of commitment to be always dressed and ready to do the bidding of the One who directs our life. So with outfits fully donned, we must make good use of the dressing room daily. Yeshua the Messiah is our example in this, during His three years of ministry He would separate himself daily, find solitude and quietness in preparation for His long and crowded days and sometimes stormy nights (Mark 1:35, Matthew 14:23, Luke 6:12). This way He was always prepared to perform the miracles we read about, to teach the sermons we are still learning from, and to stand up to opposition. He met every challenge, leading up to the day that forever changed our lives, when He was crucified for our sins. On that day, even though he was stripped of his clothing and dignity, He was triumphant because He had been prepared, adorned in power and endurance by His Father to finish His mission.
Now that we have been given the appropriate outfits, suited to our size and His stature, let us make a daily habit of accessing His dressing room: putting on the full armor for warfare, donning the apron of humility for service, robed in righteousness and having a coverall of praise for every season. Be dressed appropriately, fitted for the purpose to which He has called us.
If we are going to have success, we must be properly dressed.
