Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:9-10 (NIV)
The Greek word for honor in the New Testament means to “value at a price”, “assign value”, “preciousness”. When I read my bible, I see a general theme of esteem and honor, first and foremost to Yahweh our Sovereign God and then for others. Love (as defined in 1 Corinthians 13) lets us know that dishonoring others is neither godly nor lovely.
It is very easy in this day and social media age to disparage and dishonor others because we disagree with them or simply because we don’t like them, but even those with whom we disagree, we are required to honor (respectfully disagree). Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
We all have value and we must ensure that we esteem others, not because of their achievements, because of their humanity. That’s it. Honor your parents, not because they did their best parenting with you, but because there is promise attached to that simple command – “so that it will go well with you”.
In the same way we value ourselves – and we should since “we are fearfully and wonderfully made” according to Psalm 139:14, let us value others. To dishonor is to devalue the wonderful creation of our Almighty Creator.
Love has the ability to add value. Live the love you profess.
Read, Write and Pray

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool. Proverbs 26:1 (NIV)
Yeshua (Jesus) said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” Mark 6:4 (NIV)
“Honor your father and mother” which is the first commandment with a promise – so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Ephesians 6:3-4 (NIV).
You were bought with a price. Therefore honor Yahweh (God) with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:20 (NIV)
Write: For your journal entry today, meditate on 1 Corinthians 6:20 and see whether you are honoring your body; determine to agree with the value He has placed on you. This may mean a physical, spiritual and/or emotional assessment of what is harmful to you and devalues you, and a decision to change. Yahweh loves you.
Pray: Honor Yahweh (God). Ask for forgiveness if you have dishonored others, and ask our Savior to help you honor Him by showing honor to His people and to humankind.
